Wall Rec to collect supplies for Japan

After a 8.9-magnitude earthquake hit Japan on March 11, and a tsunami subsequently ripped through the country, supplies there are in great need.

The Wall Township Recreation Department is currently collecting supplies to be donated to the American Red Cross, to make their way to Japan and aid those in need.

“They really need baby bottles, formula, canned goods, bottles of water especially — those are the essential items that are needed,” Recreation Director Edward Grill said.

Clothing, including sweatshirts and jackets, is also needed.

“Anything people can give will help,” Mr. Grill said.

He referred anyone wishing to donate monetary funds to the Red Cross, which can be found online at www.redcross.org.

Items will be collected for one more week, Mr. Grill said.

At that time, supplies collected will be shipped to the Red Cross for use in Japan.

Recreation Assistant Kathy Martone said she is hopeful the community will come together to aid the citizens of Japan.

She recalled “how the community came together after Sept. 11 with numerous donations, and in the wake of this tragedy, we can once again help those in need.”

Any supplies can be dropped off at the Wall Recreation office, 2700 Allaire Road. With questions, please call the department at 732-449-8444, extension 250 or 251.
