"New & Improved" Wall Day Set for July 3

Wall Township officials are promising that Wall Day is going to bigger and better this year, with more bands, kiddie rides, contests, sky diving demonstrations, and a host of other family fun attractions.

The event, which regularly brings over 1,000 people to the municipal complex, is scheduled for Friday, July 3, with a rain date of Sunday, July 5. The day is set to run from noon to around 10:30 p.m.

Wall Township Administrator Joseph Verruni has referred to the event as "our new and improved Wall Day."

As usual, the Kid's Race will take place on July 3, while the popular Firecracker Five, which is going into its 20th year, will take place July 4.

The day is set to kick off at noon, with rides, attractions and vendor sites opening up. The day used to begin after 6 p.m. with the Kid's Race.

Mr. Grill said a company will be bringing in between 8 and 10 kiddie rides this year, set to include tea cups and bumper cars. There will be no cost to the township for the rides, as the company gives a portion of their proceeds to the township.

There will also be around five bands that will be performing live music throughout the day.

At 4 p.m., a sky diving demonstration will be given by the Jersey Shore Sky Team, whose members will do eight jumps.

For the second year in a row, there will be the recreation department's whiffle ball championships, which will be played on July 3 at 4:30 p.m.

There will be four categories of teams competing -- the third and fourth grades, fifth and sixth grades, seventh and eighth grades, as well as high school-aged students and adults.

A New Jersey State Police helicopter is set to land on the soccer field at 5 p.m. for a demonstration.

The annual Kids Race begins at 6:30 p.m. for children ages 4 through 12. The whiffle ball finals are set to take place at 8 p.m. under the lights at the baseball field.

At 9:30 p.m., the massive fireworks display will take place, which is always a popular event.

Mr. Grill said police department personnel will be on hand throughout the day, as well as directing and assisting with the flow of traffic. Local organizations and vendors are encouraged to reserve their spaces early for the big event, for which the deadline is May 1.
