Wall Rec announces new program with Special Olympics

The Wall Township Recreation Department and The Special Olympics of New Jersey will be working together to start up athletic programs for both special children and adults in Wall Township and surrounding communities.

These athletes will actively participate in the official games of the Special Olympics during Fall, Winter, Summer and Spring. They will have free access to New Jersey’s state of the art Olympic Training Center in Lawrenceville.

“I had a meeting there and their facility was overwhelming, what a great vision, it was definitely state of the art and one of the most beautiful facilities I ever been to,” Wall Recreation Coordinator Ed Grill stated.

The Special Olympics of New Jersey currently offers over 23 sports for children and adults and provides everything to all the athletes free of charge, which includes all equipment, shirts, hats, training, coaches and much more, according to Mr. Grill.

“The wonderful benefits that these kids and adults will receive is just unbelievable, there’s really no end,” Mr. Grill stated. “Our number one goal is to eventually have enough athletes so that we can some day have an official Special Olympic Team.

“We will be having representatives from the Special Olympics here in Wall Township at a date that will be announced which we will discuss plans and details further to everyone,” said Mr. Grill.
